The BaFID Interfaith Calendar: A guide to the diversity of religions

Faith and traditions shape the daily lives of many people in Germany in a wide variety of ways. To highlight this rich religious heritage and promote mutual understanding, the Bavarian Research Centre for Interreligious Discourse (BaFID) publishes a high-quality interreligious calendar in print format every year.

Substantive knowledge transfer directly to society Our calendar is far more than a simple list of dates – it is the result of intensive academic work. To this end, BaFID’s researchers meticulously investigate the interfaith connections of the key festivals and holidays across a wide range of traditions. The Jewish, Christian (Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant) and Islamic (Shia and Sunni) perspectives are all taken into account. This makes the calendar a valuable resource for education and society.

A tool for integration work Whether in educational settings, clubs or public institutions, the calendar is an indispensable tool for successful integration work. It provides opportunities for conversation, breaks down prejudices and promotes an appreciation of religious diversity. By presenting the holidays of different cultures side by side on an equal footing, it sends a strong signal of inclusion and respectful coexistence in a pluralistic society.

Rooted in the region – connected as one. We are particularly committed to fostering connections within our region. The annual calendars reflect the diversity we experience here on a daily basis. They bring together local stakeholders, communities and interested parties and highlight how much we have in common throughout the year, despite our different traditions.
