Die Moschee-Kathedrale von Cordoba
Date: 8. July 2026Time: 19:00 – 21:00Location: Bibel Museum Bayern Lorenzer Platz 10 90402 Nürnberg
The Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984 – and it offers far more than just impressive architecture.
The building tells the story of the region’s turbulent history, and the coexistence and conflict between Islam and Christianity: in the 8th century, following the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula, Emir Abd al-Rahman I had a mosque built on the site of a former Christian basilica. However, when Córdoba was reconquered by Ferdinand III of Castile in 1236, he had the mosque converted into a Christian cathedral. That is why the Mezquita Catedral (Mosque-Cathedral) continues to this day to uniquely combine Islamic and Christian architectural elements.
Embark on a journey of discovery to the south of Spain and learn more about the fascinating history and design of this unique building in our lecture.
