Board of Trustees with Prominent Figures
With a board of trustees comprised of prominent representatives from politics, religion, culture, administration, business and media, the Bavarian Research Center for Interreligious Discourses (BaFID) is assisted via an advisory board. At the inaugural meeting, chaired by Bavaria’s Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann as chairman of the board of trustees, BaFID Director Prof. Dr. Georges Tamer emphasized “the importance of religion in pluralistic society,” “especially with regard to dealing with social tensions and political conflicts.”
One of BaFID’s central tasks was to uncover differences and commonalities in Judaism, Christianity, and Islam through basic research and to disseminate these findings to society using innovative forms of knowledge transfer. Tamer: “In this way, people of different faiths can learn not only to tolerate religious diversity but, more importantly, to accept it and recognise those of other faiths as equal partners in the state and society.”
