Religious self-expression on social media<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether it\u2019s sporty priests from Italy, Muslim preachers reaching millions, or ultra-Orthodox rabbis livestreaming, the proclamation of the faith has found a new home \u2013 <strong>the news feed<\/strong>. In a world where the motto is \u201cPost or you don&#8217;t exist\u201d, clergy and scholars from all three monotheistic religions are embracing digital platforms. But what happens to faith when it is expressed amidst selfies and algorithms? Do contemplation and worship disappear in the din of likes? Or is this omnipresent digital presence the only chance left to bring the \u2018good news\u2019 to people today?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>We invite you to take a look behind the scenes of religious profiles. In our interdisciplinary lecture series, we explore some fascinating questions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Staging: How do religious influencers present themselves, balancing authenticity and filters?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strategy: What are religious communities really aiming for on TikTok, Instagram and other platforms?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contents: Which posts are included in the feed and which are excluded?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Experience thought-provoking analyses from Jewish, Christian and Muslim perspectives. It focuses on the digital presentation of topics such as sexual ethics, gender and social order. Using the channel \u2018Ketzer der Neuzeit\u2019 as an example, the presentation analyses how religious content is adapted to the logic of social media platforms through provocation, emotionalisation and scandalisation. They inspire them to take up new hobbies, encourage them to take part in sport, read or practise their faith, and serve as role models for lifestyle and everyday life. The findings of an exploratory study involving Muslim young people show that it is not so much the influencers\u2019 religious affiliation that is decisive, but rather their perceived authenticity, ethical credibility and ability to connect with the young people\u2019s own interests. As well as collaborating on virtual projects, spaces are created for sharing personal experiences, discussing existential questions and exploring individual quests for meaning.
