New approaches to interfaith dialogue: The Bavarian Research Centre for Interfaith Dialogue (BaFID), in collaboration with the Chair of Islamic Religious Studies, has paved the way for a promising international partnership. An intensive discussion with guest Prof. Dr Kenan Musić focused on innovative ideas for academic and intercultural exchange.
With a view to strengthening interfaith dialogue across national borders, representatives of the participating institutions met on 23 June 2026 for a productive session. Representing BaFID were Director Prof. Dr Georges Tamer and research assistants Ramy Abdin, M.A. (specialising in Islam), Jan Gehm, M.A. (specialising in Christianity) and Dr Nathanael Riemer (specialising in Judaism). The perspective of the Chair of Islamic Religious Studies (specialising in religious education) was presented by Melisa Muminović, M.A.
Erasmus exchanges and on-site training courses are being planned
The exchange generated concrete, forward-looking impetus for academic practice. With a view to enriching BaFID’s multilateral research perspective, plans were made, amongst other things, to organise a structured academic exchange via the Erasmus programme for the centre’s researchers.
Another key aspect of the cooperation concerns the direct transfer of knowledge: the plan is to build on BaFID’s in-depth intercultural and theological expertise by offering specialised interfaith courses directly in Sarajevo.
An asset to religious communities
This initiative is intended not only to stimulate academic discourse, but also to make a very practical contribution to dialogue. The aim is to provide new impetus to local religious communities and to foster mutual understanding in the long term.
BaFID looks forward to further developing this bridge to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the coming months and putting these collaborative ideas into practice.
